The guidelines

In the DfE document ‘guidance for full opening: schools’, they provide clarification on what is expected where a class, group or a small number of pupils need to self-isolate, or there is a local lockdown requiring pupils to remain at home.

When teaching pupils remotely, the DfE expects schools to:

  • Set assignments so that pupils have meaningful and ambitious work each day in a number of different subjects.
  • Teach a planned and well-sequenced curriculum so that knowledge and skills are built incrementally, with a good level of clarity about what is intended to be taught and practised in each subject.
  • Provide frequent, clear explanations of new content, delivered by a teacher in the school or through high-quality curriculum resources or videos.
  • Gauge how well pupils are progressing through the curriculum, using questions and other suitable tasks and set a clear expectation on how regularly teachers will check work.
  • Enable teachers to adjust the pace or difficulty of what is being taught in response to questions or assessments, including, where necessary, revising material or simplifying explanations to ensure pupils’ understanding.
  • Plan a programme that is of equivalent length to the core teaching pupils would receive in school, ideally including daily contact with teachers.

How we can help

We can help you apply and get set up on a free to use digital education platform

You can currently apply for DfE funding to get set up on one of two free-to-use digital education platforms: Google G Suite for Education or Microsoft Office 365 Education. We have been vetted and accredited by Google to deliver on the technical deployment of G Suite.

We can provide long-term CPD support

If you decide Google G Suite is the best platform for you and choose Entrust as your delivery partner, we will provide you with up to five hours of free CPD training, delivered by fellow educators, to help you get the best from the platform. If you decide you need further CPD or would like some support to use Microsoft Office 365 Education, we can provide additional long-term CPD support to fit your needs.

We can provide you with the devices and infrastructure

We can supply interactive screens, laptops and iPads, which are perfect for classroom teaching, or Google Chromebooks, which are highly cost-effective and ideal for both the classroom and remote teaching and learning. We also remain experts in providing the underlying server and network infrastructure, such as reliable wireless solutions, that a modern school EdTech environment is built on.
