Flint and Fire - Saxons and Vikings

Get in touch

An exciting journey through the ages...

Suitable for Year 4 and based at our Laches Wood centre - this 1 or 2-day course will allow your learners to experience the lives of the traders, raiders, warriors and people of the Saxon and Viking era.

Great settlers, conquerors and warriors came to these shores over a thousand years ago. We will practically explore the timeline, what life was like, weaponry used and how what we know as ‘England’ came to be.

Linking in with the curriculum, we will look at who, where and how the country was invaded time and time again, how places were named, what religions people adopted and how the country became divided through seven kingdoms to one.

Bringing the past alive with exciting practical activities
We will experience axe-throwing, traditional pastimes, explore a Viking ship, be part of a shield wall and more. From the end of Roman occupation to the decline of the Saxons and Vikings as we know it, we will look to bring this subject alive in our own brand of ‘living history’.
